Science Nonfiction I Revolutions start from daydreaming

Doraemon was introduced in 1970 by Fujiko Fujio, and immediately became a household favorite to children and adults alike. The artist, Fujiko Fujio, designed Doraemon with a magic pocket that could pull out any gadget to solve any problems that occur in daily life. Because of its relativeness with the common people, Doraemon’s “inventions” are things we really hope to have in real life. According to Wikipedia, Doraemon has presented 1,963 items (2,000 including gadgets in animated versions) to date.

2012 is exactly 100 years before Doraemon’s birth date. The “100 years before the birth of DORAEMON” exhibition is held in Taiwan and Hong Kong, showcasing over 100 Doraemons with his iconic props, including: The wireless string telephone – Two people talk through transducers that is not connected by string. This invention that Fujiko Fujio came up with is probably the first model of the mobile phone.

Riding the time machine with Google – Envisioning the future

In 2012 to celebrate Doraemon’s 100th birthday, Google started a audio “future search engine” campaign. The idea was to log on the page via smartphone or pc, and shout: “DO-RA-E-MON!” with your microphone. The search bar will have a magical gadget appear in front of the user’s eyes. This is a perfect example of the theme “magic” and “technology” being compatible.

Google Mobile-創造未來:

Google’s “future search engine” commemorates Doraemon’s 100th birthday before its arrival, which will be on Sep. 3rd, 2112. The combinations of magic and modern technology is indeed mindblowing, but as Google said: “How advanced will these gadgets become 10 years- or even 100 years- after Doraemon was born? The future is in your hands. Start building: Now!”

In reality, although Doraemon doesn’t really exist, many of his gadget are already part of our everyday life. Remember the time when you joked with your friends, “What if…”? Don’t be afraid to dream! It’s very likely that dreams may come true!
