Albert on Gamania’s 18th Year

Albert: “Eighteen. Wow. In human years, that means a company that has reached its ‘adulthood’, and has its own fully developed characteristics. Looking back on these 18 years, we really have come a long way. I wouldn’t say it was easy, but that’s what makes us unique. Gamania grew up as a ‘tough kid in hard times’ (laughs). It’s not uncommon to see international companies find a business model that works, and stick to it for the next 10 or 15 years to come. However, in Taiwan, things change faster than expected. The nature of our industry allows us to face different kinds of challenges every day. How do we tackle it, then? By dreaming big, and dreaming bold. We have always welcomed room for self-improvement and growth. From Gamania’s past experiences, “falling down” is just an opportunity to get back up, stronger and better. The important thing is that we know how to get back up. There are few companies out there that are as tenacious as Gamania. We have endured circumstances that would have destroyed many corporations, yet here we are. Still standing.

We started 18 years ago, when no one in Taiwan even heard of such a business. I’ve seen things back then that to this day still shock me. For those who have left, and also the ones that stayed, I care and feel for each and every one. They were in this together, and we endured a lot, for better or for worse. That makes us family for life. The truth is, the best stories are bound to have ups and downs. Bumps on the road to success will only make our goal sweeter in the end. The process counts. That is why I identify myself strongly with every individual that was once a Gamanian. A Gamanian is trained to learn from past mistakes and adapt to different situations. Our biggest asset is the ability to recognize what does not work, and accept that, at some point, we have to change. Victory does not happen overnight, it comes with many hardships. I often say that a successful person is one that handles defeat best. Those that are able to manage and reflect on their mistakes are the ones that will make it in the end.”
