June, 20th, Gamania invited a super-star guest – the designer, Ching-yang Hsiao, also known as Master Hsiao, who was nominated for 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Grammy Awards. If you are a fan of Der-fu Hu, Mayday, A-Yue, Chi-zhen Chen, or Purdur Chen, or you’ve ever seen their album covers then you must have heard of the works of the Master Hsiao because all their album covers came from him. He designed more than 800 album covers and each had unique and touching story behind.

In the speech, Ching-yang Hsiao demonstrated his creative ideas with his work of 《Story Island》. He used a sensitive tongue to narrate his dream pursuing process when he was young. Mr. Hsiao’s family owned a bakery and he was not interested in study since little. Yet, he showed special preferences for drawing and music which later become the foundation of his designing career in the future.
《Story Island》 was an album that told its story by paper-cut and music notes. The origination of this album was that Ching-yang Hsiao once stayed in a hotel decorated with laces. The feminine image of lace didn’t match with the muscular image of Ching-yang Hsiao who designed the Hohaiyan Rock Festival at all. However, the repeatedly coincidences tied him with laces. He then decided to drop the stereo type he held against laces and the 《Story Island》 was therefore born.

Never forget the dream you had at age of 18
Design is a tough career path and there is barely a turning back once you step up on it. Ching-yang Hsiao encouraged all the Gamanians with his own experiences to not forget the simple and easy dreams ones had at their age of 18. He once committed to pursue the perfection in design but forgot the feeling of simply like something while young. He then determined to drop all the rule of composition, throw away all the designing standards. He started to search for the true-self. He’d like to encourage all the Gamanians not to forget their primary feeling.
Master Hsiao also brought his English teacher with him to the conference hall. The handsome teacher brought his guitar and sang two very beautiful songs for the Gamanians. The crowed was clapping altogether and the speech was ended in a joyful atmosphere.

Gamanian Q&A
At the end of the event, it is the routine that Albert would answer the questions proposed by the Gamanians. The Q&A this time was in particularly eager and more questions were proposed than usual. 《G!VOICE》 had selected several important questions for the readers.

Q1: When will the Gamania jacket delivered?
Albert: Expected to be next month (July). Because we are not clothes manufacturer so we need more time. The Brand Center also spent lots of efforts on it. Please be patient, I always keep my promises, don’t worry.
Q2: May Albert have a meeting with low-tier employees to know their ideas better?
Albert: I will ask HR to make an arrangement.
Q3: How’s the progress of Gamania kindergarten going? We can never leave work early and it is very inconvenient for us to pick up kids.
Albert: It is still on progress. The major concern is that we really don’t have enough space for it. Therefore we need more time to search for proper space and teachers. The employees leave their children to Gamania and we are not simply a daycare center but an education facility. Our mission on it is more than keep the children here. We will definitely do this and it has been carried on already.
Q4: Can we request more Gamania jacket, hat, bag, and relevant products?
Albert: You can make your requests with the managers and the HR will make the delivery.
Q5: People in the operation team who are awarded with fierce medals get an awesome ring. We would like to know whether the R&D platinum award winners can have something with them to show off.
Albert: The necklace, it will follow the example of fierce medal and only PM can have it.
Q6: Can we simplify the subsidy process of faculty tour and directly provide $10,000 and three days off for us without submitting the voucher?
Albert: This is a routine question and here I will explain one more time for all the Gamanians. The faculty tour day-off expected to be used for traveling. I realize that some may submit some vouchers to apply for reimbursement which is against the company policy. I will not make such violation become a custom just because everyone is doing so. There is a certain process to constitute the rule of company and we have discussed this for many times. I wish Gamanians can understand the true meaning of this welfare.
Q7: The Council of Labor Affairs has announced the responsibility system didn’t apply for engineers and there should be overtime pay for working overtime. What is the responding policy of Gamania regarding this?
Albert: We have submitted our concerns to the Council of Labor Affairs and received official responds already. We are using the responsibility system here. There are many kinds of engineers and the concerns are majorly vocation-related. All the policies we adopted are approved by the Council of Labor Affairs so there should be doubts anymore.
