A Role Play Task
As the marketing department in Gamania, we often alternate between two roles: when we face the business operation, we turn into professional Ad personnel, providing marketing strategy and corresponding effect according to the features of each game and the target player group; however when we face external advertising agency or production company, we act as a client of game company where we carefully examine the proposal and estimate prospective result. Switching characters between these two roles requires more than adjusting the attitudes but professional skill-set to deal with different tasks. Therefore, a real life drill was born for the training of how to be professional in the field of marketing. In each case scenario, our marketing colleagues would be allocated to assume the roles of business and creative director of advertising agency, producers, the media as well as director of operation, director of marketing, game LP and marketing manager in Gamania.
Task: Insight and Briefing Skills
In real life scenario simulation, each colleague had to learn and digest historical data, re-examined player insight, market competitors, marketing theme, creativity script and budget allocation and conducted a presentation. During the process, it was necessary to cover group discussion, scrutiny of historical data and proposal flow. In addition, as the representative of Gamania, they need to understand whether the proposal actually fit the goal of the company and the content of the game and whether the ‘creativity’ is actually unique and extendable. Through the discussion between both parties (agency and client), an effective marketing campaign was born.
Skills Upgrade, Exp Doubled
This drill will span across two months period. Currently, three sessions were conducted. It is definitely a challenge for the colleagues to invest time and energy to digest past cases in their busy work schedule. Moreover, presenting proposal in front of everyone and answering queries is a daunting task. Colleague M from marketing department said that whether you acted as the advertising agent or a colleague from the marketing team or even just a plain audience, you would really benefit a lot from it. During the drill, you could see your shortcomings as well as learning great attributes from others. It pushes you to grow fast and would definitely be very helpful for future work.
