A Gama-Style Design Thinking Expo

There is no doubt that Gamania has the best creative thinkers gathered into one, smart and fun team. Each playing different roles, gamanians have always excelled in affecting others, as to march in a more positive light! Yet, with such versatility of division, that range from customer service, HR, IT, UX, QA, marketing, operations, design, creativity, brand, strategy planning, administration, finance and Gama Island… Not all objectives apply the same kind of logic. This time, SPACE 17 introduces the Design Thinking exhibition to remind all gamanians: Design is not just a professional trait, it is a way of living, thinking and observing life in a fresh and innovative way!  Anyone can be creative and influential if you put your heart to it!

The SPACE 17 planning team promotes Design Thinking to be integrated in daily work, and daily life. Today, G!Voice leads our readers to take a deeper look into how Design Thinking helps form ideas with a better structure, focus and conceptual design!

Believe it! Inspiration comes from proposing questions, and the attempts to answer. Let the following sections speak for themselves, then!

1. Unzipping your brain: Make it Fun!

What makes a Gama-Style Design Thinking Expo, exactly? Every design starts with the same core question: How do you create a XXX, made just for a OOO? The first step is to think more imaginatively! Try your best to associate even the most far-fetched aspects you may think of. It just might enlighten you!

Design Thinking is a relatively young term that is made critical from the angle it is approached. From Gamania’s perspective, what kind of elements does Design Thinking require, and what kind of examples should be presented, as to catch the attention of gamanians? It even comes down to considering the way the event should be promoted… All of these aspects need to be pondered upon.

▲A stack of post-its, a black marker, and voila: Anything that is possible is now there to see.

▲Design the logo and discussion over its content.

▲The team is drowned by post-its and notepaper during the process of planning.

2. Mind Inspiration: Humanity Counts The Gama Spirit – GAMA Order App

A Gama-Style Design Thinking Expo is custom made for the daily lives of gamanians! The planners concluded – after a intense yet delightful discussions – that gamanians should participate in the expo themselves! This lead to the idea of a creative wall allowing our members to involve themselves, literally, into the process of Design Thinking.   The question then appears: How do we use this wall to lead gamanians through the 3 steps of Design Thinking? (Inspiration, Strategy, and Design) Moreover, what kind of topic would trigger interest in the hearts of each individual?

A heated debate and brainstorming led us to look at the phenomenon of mobile Apps in the current market. As to echo our daily life style, and to satisfy gamanians’ needs (and have each voice heard), it was decided that gamanians will be given the opportunity to design their very own GAMA Order App! Every person will write their needs down on a post-in and stick it to the wall for all to see! The next procedure would be to have a level-headed discussion of how the system should be designed, and finally, come up with a prototype of the App panel!

▲The “creation” wall for Gamanians to design their own App.

3.Better Now than Never: Go Adventure!

Velcro design – Design your prototype anyway you wish.

In Design Thinking, being able to learn from one’s mistakes in prototype making is critical to success. What would be the best way to deliver the message of “inventing and reinventing” a prototype? The solution was easy, but brilliant: Velcro! An App design that can be designed over and over again, according to one’s personal preferences and aesthetic appeal.

The highly appreciated RSS reader App – Pulse (for iPad) originated also from a bunch of post-its. One post was later represented by one tile, that compiles into the now famous Pulse browser, which not only is highly readable, has a very appealing display in terms of design. Similarly, the prototype of the GAMA Order App is conceived, with additional velcro strips in the back of each panel. Now the designer is able to rearrange the App as many times as he or she pleases. Anybody can do it!
