Queen’s Jubilee x British 10 K London Run

The rain poured down on July 8th 2012 in London, drenching the streets and the runners.

GEU-UK-Samantha Whale

This year’s British 10K London Run was particularly special because it also commemorated the 2012 London Olympics as well as Queen’s Jubilee. The ‘iconic route’ was designated from a section in the 40km marathon route in Olympics, which incorporated various famous London landmarks. However, on the day of the run, it was raining. Despite the rain, there were over 40,000 people participated in this charity run. GEU-UK, Samantha Whale took the opportunity and raise funds for charity organization, GamesAid. Initially she planned on raising 500 pounds but ended up raising 840 pounds!

Samantha Whale raised 840 pounds in total, far exceeding the original target.

The amount of 840 pounds were donated to British charity, GamesAid, a charity organization set up for children and teenagers and founded by game industry. GamesAid is a broker for various charity events. It raises funds and distributes them to various charity organizations. It represents an outreach gesture from the game industry to give back to the society. Why did Samantha choose GameAid as the fundraising organization? Because she was the first paid, female professional Gamer in England. She got to travel around the world through game contests and sponsors. Games play an important role in her childhood and most importantly, she embodies Gamanian’s sportsmanship.

These running crowds were contestants who participated in British 10K run.

As an initiator of this fundraising project, Samantha received enormous supports. This kind of campaign is not only for her but for others. To her, this was not just a simple marathon.

Through marathon fundraising, Samantha Whale let everybody know that we need to support and give back to the society through actions.

Marathon runners ran in the rain, and as they ran, they also reminded themselves how lucky they were to have healthy legs to run forward. This event was significant in that we didn’t only run for ourselves but others.

In addition to encouraging yourself, you also raise money for charity organizations, which makes you realize it is bliss to have wholesome and healthy bodies. We should learn to cherish what we have and also extend our helping hands to others.

We could see from Samantha’s example that Gamanians possess this kind of spirit. We challenge our bodies, change the world with ideas, we use Gamanian language to tell the world—our pride.

Gamania also embodies the sportsmanship of never give up and perseverance.

Finishers medal after participants finish the run.
