Family x Corporate Force of Happiness=Corporate Competitiveness

▲ ’Concentric Circle’ event held during Gama-Together camp on Gamania Festival, 2006.

‘Talent’ is the basic unit for constituting a company. How a company makes its staff feel sense of happiness at work has become an important issue for all companies nowadays. Generally speaking, the style of business owner decides the operation of the company and corporate culture. In the current stage of Taiwanese traditional job market, business owners tend to place ‘task demand’ over ‘corporate sharing’ and consequently making staff feel a bit left out and on the brink of feeling unhappy.

1111 Job Bank conducted a questionnaire poll on working professionals in 2011, the result shows that 73.68 employed personnel feel unhappy at work. If we denominate 60 as the passing grade, the average score of corporate happiness is only 63.4. The following are reasons for staff feeling unhappy at work: ‘boss/supervisor style/corporate culture’ takes up 58.26%; ‘no room for further development’ at 53.64%; and ‘ambiguous promotion system’ at 41.6%. Among these unhappy employees, as high as 96.5% would consider quitting their jobs, which shows the companies nowadays have problems keeping their employees, let along recruiting exceptional talents onboard. How are companies to maintain sustainable development? A study done by Harvard University reveals that for every 5% increase in feeling of happiness by staff, customer satisfaction rate goes up to 11.9% and corporate cost-effectiveness would have a 2.5% increase. In other words, when staff feels happy and pleasant, their job performances would visibly enhance. This is the perfect illustration of turning corporate happiness into corporate competitiveness. However, where does that ‘sense of happiness’ come from? In addition to bonus and promotion, we also think about the ‘family’ aspect for our staff.

▲The smiles on children’s faces are the best motivation for Gama-parents’ hard work.

Gamania has continuously made decisions to enhance the positive energy from the point of decision making to execution and then carried on with the next and the one after. Gamania provides staff with a safe environment, stable life, career planning, sound internal transfer system, and has established a gym and staff restaurant. After providing such healthy and safe life and work space, Albert further hopes to extend the care to colleagues’ ‘families’, and do something more for them, especially to those with new born babies. He doesn’t want to see Gamanians rushing back and forth in-between work and family matters, therefore in 2011, he decided to establish a kindergarten exclusively for Gamanians. The execution of this decision, from the designated unit to assisting units, we have realized Gamanian spirit in every step: creating fun, be adventurous, mind-inspiring, innovative, pursuing glory and honor and keeping a youthful mind. Our corporate value and culture: F.A.M.I.L.Y. is embodied in these decisions that determine to make Gamania a happy place to work.

If a company could create sense of happiness for its staff and becomes a company with force of happiness, it will definitely become a successful business. We all know how capricious and competitive the market could get, therefore, to survive in the market, we must be able to enhance business operation, overall management, market profitability and brand image. And all of which are the result of hard work contributed by the business owner and its staff. Only a business that possesses of force of happiness could perform extraordinary competitiveness, not only face market competitors with ease but ride through potential crisis. Staff who stays in the happy company tends to identify more with the company and has higher sense of belonging, willing to go through thick and thin with the company. A Chinese saying goes like this, “As distance tests a horse’s strength, the true and faithful can be recognized in times of trouble.” When the dramatic change takes place in the market or the environment, the force of happiness becomes the very strength for the next lunge as well as the crucial key to overturning the adverse situation. A happy company is also a company that will bring happiness to the consumers because it not only takes care of its staff but extends it to the suppliers, customers and the communities. In the process of bringing GamaGarden to life, from internal units, assisting partners, collaborating engineering units, Healthy Grow Foundation, to New Taipei City Government, they all felt the force of happiness from Gamania. They worked hard for making GamaGarden a reality because they identify with our values. Family and force of corporate happiness seem all warm and fuzzy from the look of it, but Family x force of corporate happiness has potentially substantial momentum. Gamania’s belief and value, F.A.M.I.L.Y. was the key to successfully accomplishing the task of establishing GamaGarden. However, we still rely on everyone to feel, appreciate and be touched to keep the force forever alive!
